Barcelona faces another disappointing season despite Liga success

The world's greatest two teams, Barcelona and Real Madrid, before the start of the season where competing with each other with the prospect of winning all the available majors. Having outplayed each other in the La Liga year after year, this season was no different again. Champions League seemed to be a cherry on the top for them as they were sure to sweep past the domestic glory. But what followed throughout the season was utter dismay to their prolonged ambitions. With Barcelona lucky enough to ride on the early waves and finish almost 13 points clear on top of the Liga, their Champions League ambitions were given a stroke by the Celtic in the group stages. They were further dented in the last 16 when AC Milan gave them a alarming by beating them 2-0 at home. With defenders injured and coach undergoing cancer treatment, Barcelona showed their true colours by beating them 4-0 at Camp Nou. In the quarters, came PSG, where Barcelona only limped home on the away goals rule, but they had to take causalities of the phenomenal Messi and defender Mascherano, which proved extremely vital against Bayern Munich, where they were humbled 7-0. Having lost to bitter rivals Real Madrid in the semifinals of King's Cup, their domestic cup was also lost. Having only one trophy out of the possible 4 this season, including the Spanish Super Copa at the start of the season, Barcelona has had a sorry outing this season. With defending clearly below par and sticking to an all out attacking style even against team like Bayern Munich, they have suffered a lot. Over dependence on Messi and lack of goals from fellow strikers, with clearly done and dusted defenders, Barcelona has cut a sorry figure in big matches, where they clearly looked vulnerable when they lost possession. Unless they bring in a couple of right players (a defender and an attacker) and a necessary plan B when plan A fails, Barcelona would have to undergo risks of having a poor 2013/14 too as stronger opponents have clearly understood their style of play. An evolution is required as revolution has already taken place in this team which has been often referred to as the greatest team in the history of sports. With a bit of fine tuning, Barcelona would be back to the reckoning of total football domination.
