Caballero keen to replace Valdes at Barcelona
The Camp Nou giants are looking for a new
shot stopper this summer and the Malaga No.1 says only a "stupid
person" would reject them.
Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero says he would move to Barcelona in an instant if the opportunity presented itself this summer.Current Barca No.1 Victor Valdes has announced his intention to leave the Camp Nou giants, with Monaco at the forefront of a queue of clubs vying for his signature.
Caballero, who has impressed throughout this season in La Liga and in his side’s surprise run to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, says the opportunity to replace Valdes would be too good to refuse for any top keeper.
Speaking to Spanish radio show Esports Cope, he said: “If Barcelona called me, I would not hesitate. I would not let the phone ring twice.
“Who would not like to play with these great players? Only a stupid person would say no to Barcelona.
"I hope Valdes can keep on demonstrating that he's a great goalkeeper wherever he goes on to play next year.”
The shot stopper’s impressive form for Malaga has led to calls for him to receive a chance with Argentina at international level and Caballero says he is confused by his lack of international opportunities to date.
The 31-year-old added: "I really don't know why I am not in the national team, but I would love to be there again.
“I know Mascherano as we played together in the Olympics. I barely know Messi, I’ve only been with him in some training sessions, but I get on well with everyone in the set-up.”
Malaga currently sit sixth in the table going into the final round of matches, where they face champions Barca - who are a victory away from reaching the 100-point milestone - at Camp Nou on Sunday.
