Barcelona president Sandro Rosell admits the club could make a move
this summer for a German player, believed to be Dortmund defender Mats
Hummels.
Reports in both Spain and Germany indicate the international centre-back is Barca’s No1 defender target this summer as they look to shory up their leaky defence.
Barca have kept just four clean sheets in their last 20 games and are riddled with injuries at the back with both skipper Carles Puyol and Javier Mascherano both sidelined at present.
Hummels, 24, who has emerged as one of the best defenders in Europe over the last three seasons, signed a new contract with deposed German champions Dortmund last summer.
Rosell refused to be drawn on the identity of the player but said: “There’s a German player I like very much, but I can’t give his name because if we go for him in the end, his price will go up.”
