Arsenal's hopes of landing playmaker Mario Goetze have suffered a blow after the player's agent insisted he would not be leaving Borussia Dortmund in the summer, reports the Daily Mail.
According to the Gunners former vice-chairman David Dein, Arsene Wenger is prepared to finally spend big to rejuvenate his stuttering squad at the end of the season - with the Germany international high on his wishlist.
The Dortmund schemer is also a summer target for Manchester City after impressing against the Blues in the Champions League group stages, according to German sports magazine Kicker.
However, both Premier League clubs look set to be disappointed after sources close to the 20-year-old revealed he dreams of playing for Barcelona after one more season in the Bundesliga.
Arsenal were reportedly prepared to meet the player's £31.5million release clause from a contract that keeps him at the German side until 2016.
But, while Dortmund may be tempted to accept such a huge fee, it seems that Goetze is not interested in a move to the Emirates.
‘Mario has not even thought about leaving Dortmund in 2013. He is totally not interested in that and will stay at least another season,' said his agent Volker Struth.
Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson is another known admirer and the youngster has admitted the Red Devils would lead the English clubs vying for his signature.
‘I am very happy at Dortmund and satisfied with the way we are progressing as a team,’ he said. ‘Any thoughts about playing for another team are very much for the future, but Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United could be interesting.’
