Xavi is the best at his position, says Bayern's Martinez

The former Athletic Bilbao star is eagerly anticipating the Champions League tie versus Barcelona and has earmarked his compatriot as one of the major threats.

Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez has hailed Spain team-mate Xavi as the world's finest ahead of the first leg of Bayern's Champions League semi-final tie against Barcelona.

The Bundesliga champions take on the Liga leaders at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday and Martinez has singled out Xavi as one of the Blaugrana's key players going into the clash.

"Xavi is the best midfielder in the world and Barcelona's engine," the former Athletic Bilbao star was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"I expect two great games against Barcelona. The spectators will enjoy it. We want to go to London."

The midfielder then went on to reflect on his move to Bayern at the start of the 2012-13 campaign, expressing his delight at life in Bavaria this season.

"I'm proud and delighted to have come here," he added. "I'm very positive about it all."

Martinez has developed into an important first-team player at Bayern since his summer move, making 38 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
